Interview Principles

1. Non-Verbal communication:
- appeal to emotions, not just logic
- dress, smile (physical mimicking of a smile), firm handshake, confidence

2. Rule of 17 seconds.
- They do not know much about your skills yet but they already like you or not
- Feelings are pretty much the same in both directions. If you do not like them they most likely do not like you.

3. Three zones in question answered:
- minus (worse than most of the candidates)
- zero (pretty much like everybody else)
- plus (better than most of the competition)

4. Same question asked by different people could be answered differently
- Example: "what is quality?"
- customer satisfaction (talking to company management)
- deviation from requirements (talking to quality specialists)

5. Be yourself, be natural, be sincere
- there is a HUGE difference between successful and ambitious person and someone playing that
- no sleaziness
- no games played
- no tricks
- not going on tangent answering straightforward question
- no book answers. They read same books

6. What is Successful interview?
- The one, which results in the job offer?
- Is not getting a job offer a failure? (are we able to control other people?)
- the one you did better than before

7. Interviews should happen frequently enough
- we need that to get stronger in between
- otherwise we loose the drive and courage
- you cannot afford the underinvestment of time

8. Two dimensions of being prepared
- Research the company web site, sources on the WEB
- research the position/requirements
- find excitements in both
